There is a lot of vagueness in this corner of the internet. Here is precisely how a reading on this site is put together, including the parts people usually don't spell out.
1. The card is drawn at random
Your daily card is chosen by a random draw from the full 78. It is seeded with your account and the date, which means the card is fixed for you for that day — reloading the page will not give you a different one, and it cannot be re-rolled until tomorrow. That is the only sense in which it is "yours".
We want to be straight about this: the draw is not weighted by the sky, by your chart, or by anything you have done on the site. It is a shuffle. Anyone telling you their algorithm divines the right card for you is describing a random number generator with better marketing.
2. The sky is real, and computed
The astrology is not decorative. For each date we compute, from an actual ephemeris:
- the Moon's phase, its illuminated percentage and the sign it occupies;
- the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets by sign and degree;
- which planets are retrograde.
These come from the PyEphem astronomical library, the same class of calculation an observatory would use to point a telescope. If our page says the Moon is 96% illuminated in Pisces, you can check that against any almanac and it will agree.
3. The words are written by a language model
Yes, the reading text is AI-generated. A large language model is given the card, whether it fell upright or reversed, and the computed sky for that date, and asked to write the interpretation you read.
What that means in practice: the astronomy is exact, the card is a genuine random draw, and the prose that connects them is machine-written from a prompt built out of those facts. It is not transcribed from a person sitting with your chart. We would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.
4. The card meanings are a different thing
The 78 card meaning pages are the part of this site we are proudest of. They draw on the established traditions rather than one house style — Rider-Waite-Smith, the Marseille lineage, Etteilla, and the Golden Dawn correspondences that Thoth decks inherit. Where the traditions disagree, we say so instead of flattening them into one answer.
